While that should not be necessary in this case, what are the obvious
reasons? Performing actions before and after rotation is a common
feature of log rotation tools.
For single log files used by processes which don't (re)create it, the
easy approach is copy and truncate. This should be an option in the
platform's log rotation. See e.g. copytruncate in logrotate(8).
