[Privoxy-users] Privoxy working properly with Firefox but not Chrime (linux mint 18.3)

I have tried all these items without success.
The thing that I find a mystery is that I am running mint 18.3 on my laptop
without issues in chrome.
I did not need to do anything special (inside chrome) when I installed
privoxy.
I did not need to edit the startup script in
/usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop [no proxy config there]
I did not need to change environment variables in /etc/environment [no
proxy config there]
Nor could I find any proxy controls in $HOME/.config/google-chrome
